Lab grown diamonds vs. natural diamonds
Lab-grown and natural diamonds are physically and optically identical. How are lab-grown diamonds created
The two main methods used to create lab-grown diamonds are the high pressure/high temperature (HPHT) process and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The HPHT replicates the high pressure and temperature conditions found deep underground where natural diamonds form, using a diamond seed placed in a press with carbon and metal flux, heated to high temperatures and pressures to crystallize around the seed. CVD involves creating diamonds from a hydrocarbon gas mixture using a technology called chemical vapor deposition, where carbon layers accumulate and crystallize around a diamond seed under controlled heat and gas conditions.
